This a recipe from The Pantry restaurant in McKinney, Texas. If any of you have been to The Pantry you know what I'm talkin' 'bout! Everything in there is absolutely wonderful!
The Recipe:3 eggs
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 tablespoons flour
dash of salt
1 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup margarine melted, and cooled to room temp
1 teas vanilla
1 deep dish pie shell

Mix first 7 ingredients together. Beat for 3 minutes on med speed (very important). Pou into pie shell. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes. Lower heat to 350. Bake additional 35 minutes until center is set.
It is important that melted margarine is cool before adding eggs, or they will not blend properly.

One of our very favorites! In our family, my dad makes them. His recipe makes two pies at a time and believe me...we eat it all! I saw that SnoWhite had never heard of them. I think it's very southern or Texan, don't you?

Does buttermilk pie actually taste like buttermilk (hope not!), or just sweet and vanilla-ish? I once worked for a man whose wife made something called sawdust pie - maybe the same? It was delicious!! Is there a schedule for the book club? I've picked up the Guernsey book many times but could never get excited about it. But if you say it's good, I'm gonna read it. I'll grab a button.

Thank you!!!

Anyone who doesn't like Buttermilk Pie has never had a bite I bet. Some people may not like to drink buttermilk, but this is a whole different story.

Yum, love buttermilk pie. A little shop near where I used to live served it. My other mother also makes a version of it that she calls Cream Pie. When she makes it we all come a runnin.

It is good to be back, thanks for coming by.

Hugs,
Sue
